Baltimore Hunger Project Opens Up Free Grocery Store - Turning an Old Pharmacy into a Haven

The Baltimore Hunger Project (BHL) has opened up a free grocery store in the heart of the city's Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood. The store, located at 1700 W. North Avenue, is the first of its kind in Baltimore and provides fresh produce, dairy, meat, and other groceries to anyone in need, no questions asked.

BHL History

BHL was founded in 2003 by a group of volunteers who wanted to address the issue of hunger in Baltimore. The organization started out by distributing food to families in need, and has since grown to provide a wide range of services, including a food pantry, a soup kitchen, and a job training program.

The new grocery store is the latest addition to BHL's services, and it is expected to serve over 1,000 families per week. The store is open seven days a week, and customers can shop for free by simply showing their ID.

The store is stocked with a variety of fresh produce, dairy, meat, and other groceries. All of the food is donated by local businesses and individuals, and BHL relies on volunteers to keep the store running.

The opening of the grocery store is a major milestone for BHL, and it is expected to have a significant impact on the community. The store will provide much-needed access to fresh, healthy food for residents of Sandtown-Winchester, and it will also help to reduce hunger in the city.
